The Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi is scheduled to attend the 5th BIMSTEC Summit on 30th March of this month via virtual mode, and will be hosted by Sri Lanka, which chairs BIMSTEC presently.
The Ministry for External Affairs announced for the preparation of the Summit. The associate Officials are to meet on 28th, and the next day, is the Foreign Ministers meet.

BIMSTEC
The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC), established in June-6’th, 1997, is a regional organization comprising of 7 Nations -  
·         Bangladesh
·         India
·         Sri Lanka
·         Thailand
·         Myanmar
·         Bhutan
·         Nepal
The last three nations joined later, Myanmar in 1997 and in 2004, Nepal, Bhutan, and was formerly it was known as BIST-EC with 5 member nations.
 
The purposes of BIMSTEC:
  • Enable environment that speed-up economic development identifying and implementing specific project on the unanimous agreement of the nations.
  • Enhance the social and economic progress in the regional stretch of Bay of Bengal working together with partnership spirit.
  • Actively collaborate, promote, and mutual assist on matters of technical, economic, scientific and social aspects.
  • Assist via training and with research infrastructure in educational, technical and professional verticals.
  • Jointly work providing supportive means beneficial for all member states in uplifting living standards of people and generating employment opportunities.
  • Unify resource, capabilities, and synergize to execute and deliver project more productively.
  • Maintain peace and stability across the regional belt of Bay of Bengal, collaborate-combat against international terrorism, organized crimes, natural disasters, climatic changes, and epidemics.
  • Aim to eradicate poverty in the Bay of Bengal regional belt.
  • Setting-up diverse connect and synergy in the region, motivated to enable economic integration and shared prosperity.
  • Boost trade and investment to leverage economic and social development in the region.
